This feature length investigation by Al Jazeera’s Investigative Unit exposes Israeli war crimes in the Gaza Strip through the medium of photos and videos posted online by Israeli soldiers themselves during the year long conflict.
The I-Unit has built up a database of thousands of videos, photos and social media posts. Where possible it has identified the posters and those who appear.
The material reveals a range of illegal activities, from wanton destruction and looting to the demolition of entire neighbourhoods and murder.
The film also tells the story of the war through the eyes of Palestinian journalists, human rights workers and ordinary residents of the Gaza Strip. And it exposes the complicity of Western governments – in particular the use of RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus as a base for British surveillance flights over Gaza.
“The west cannot hide, they cannot claim ignorance. Nobody can say they didn’t know,” says Palestinian writer, Susan Abulhawa. This is “the first livestream genocide in history … If people are ignorant they are wilfully ignorant,” she says.
Kids Under Fire: An investigation into Israeli soldiers shooting children | Fault Lines Documentary

The war in Gaza has killed nearly 16,000 children since October 2023, most of whom have died in indiscriminate bombings. Yet a deeply unsettling subset of these deaths stands apart – children arriving at trauma centres with gunshot wounds.
Doctors in Gaza report seeing these cases nearly every day. Their accounts, corroborated across hospitals and over time, suggest a disturbing pattern. This is not random. It is systematic.
This film investigates these atrocities through the testimonies of healthcare workers from the United States who witnessed them and tells the story of four-year-old Mira al-Darini. Mira was shot in the head outside her family’s tent in Khan Younis but survived against all odds, thanks to Dr Mimi Syed on her first mission to Gaza. Mira’s case is not isolated. American doctors describe treating dozens of children with nearly identical injuries, linking these horrors to the Israeli military, supported heavily by US funding.

Gaza is becoming a graveyard for children — you just heard what the UN chief said in the first month of the war.
Since October 20-23, Israeli attacks have killed more than 17-thousand 800 children and left many young survivors permanently scarred.
With only basic medical services available and schools destroyed, Gaza’s young people face an uncertain future.
Al Jazeera’s Lina Abu Akleh reports.
Rosalia Bollen is from UNICEF – and is in Al Mawasi in south-western Gaza.
She told us at least 30 children have been killed since the ceasefire deal was announced.
And even if it does come in to effect – a ceasefire on its own will not end the suffering in Gaza.

Khalil al-Hayya says Palestinians will remember who carried out mass killings against them, who justified the atrocities in the media and who provided the bombs that were dropped on their homes.
“The barbaric war of extermination … that the Israeli occupation and its backers have carried out over 467 days will forever be engraved in the memory of our people and the world as the worst genocide in modern history,” al-Hayya said.
The Hamas official says despite the horrific attacks against them, Palestinians did not show Israel a “moment of weakness”.
